Aub Lawson

Aub Lawson was a bonafide international Solo Motorcycle superstar, hailing from country New South Wales and arriving in England in 1939 at the age of 25. He qualified for the World Final that year, which wasn’t run due to the outbreak of
World War 2 and subsequently had distinguished military service from 1940 to 1946.

When racing recommenced he became part of the promotions team at the Sydney Sports Ground in 1946 and returned to England in 1947. Racing for West Ham and Norwich he was a constant presence in the World Final, making nine appearances in 11 years with four top five finishes.

His best placing was third in 1958, and he also amassed nine state titles in Australia between 1948 and 1963. By then he was also the popular Manager of Claremont Speedway in Perth, and he held that position for many years until his sudden death in Western Australia in 1977 at the age of 62.
